Case Studies:

Case Study 1: Law Firm – Second Request

Client is an Am Law 10 law firm advising on a multi-billion dollar merger that is the subject of a Second Request from the FTC. Client has to review massive volumes of documents in a very compressed timeframe, but with a high degree of accuracy. SQ rapidly assembled a team of over 20 attorneys proficient in document and e-mail review. The project was managed by a U.S. licensed attorney with extensive antitrust document review experience. SQ and Client provided project-specific training to bring the team up to speed on all the specifications and the scope of the review. Using Attenex® Patterns® E-Discovery Software, SQ’s team reviewed and analyzed millions of documents for privilege and over 25 complex substantive issues such as geographic operations data, competitor information, strategic objectives and growth plans. SQ’s team uncovered numerous “hot” documents which were potentially of great significance to the FTC’s economic analysis of the transaction. SQ also generated periodic quality reports using Six Sigma methodologies to monitor performance and identify potential areas of training/improvement. SQ analyzed trends indicated by the quality reports and immediately deployed corrective and preventative actions. SQ also addressed Client’s security concerns by implementing rigorous physical, technical and personnel security measures. SQ conducted high-quality privilege review and multi-issue analysis under extremely tight time constraints. Client can now call on SQ’s litigation services team to effectively and efficiently handle large-scale document reviews.

Case Study 2: Financial Institution – Internal Investigation

Client is a leading global financial institution, and Client’s internal compliance department suspects that personnel working on a particular deal may have violated SEC regulations and/or internal policies. Client needs large amounts of electronic data reviewed in native file format as quickly as possible to identify relevant documents and issues for further internal investigation and segregate privileged information. SQ assisted Client by conducting an accelerated review of the materials and identifying highly relevant and potentially privileged documents per Client’s guidelines. SQ also addressed Client’s security concerns with several project-specific measures. SQ provided Client with exceptionally cost-effective and timely results, using a highly-secure review environment. SQ’s team proceeded to summarize and digest hundreds of depositions for Client, with the average transcript running into several hundreds of pages.
